What is counselling?Counselling is a talking therapy. There are many different models of counselling and each has its own methods and ways of working. My humanistic approach means I believe everyone has within themselves the resources to move forward and develop. However, sometimes the resources that are needed to achieve this have been buried. This is where counselling can help to uncover/discover your resilience and strengths.

Benefits of counselling |
Counselling and psychotherapy can be a great support when things feel overwhelming and unmanageable. It can be a huge relief to talk about difficult thoughts and feelings, especially to someone who is detached from the rest of your life. Talking to friends and family can be beneficial at times; however, working with a counsellor offers the option of discussing issues within a confidential, non-judgmental setting.
It is rarely easy for individuals to take the first step of contacting a counsellor; however, by doing so, this offers a unique opportunity for clients to explore, discover and understand themselves at a pace that is suitable to them. This invariably assists them in becoming aware of the thoughts and feelings that may, in some way, be holding them back. My experience is that after only one or two sessions clients start to notice positive changes. For instance, clients often come to their first few sessions with a real jumble of thoughts and feelings. By starting to explore and talk through these issues, clients often report feeling much calmer and less overwhelmed, with more clarity around their issues. There are all sorts of reasons why people might contact me; they may be in a difficult place within a relationship, experiencing depression or anxiety; be in the midst of a crisis; or struggling to cope with a bereavement. No matter what issues you bring, I will offer a warm, compassionate and professional service. The information you share during our sessions will remain confidential and I will always offer you my full attention and respect. My belief is that 'you' are the expert on your life (even if you do not feel like it at times). I will work alongside you in order to support you in finding your own answers. My priority is to build positive and supportive relationships; where each individual feels enabled and safe to share and explore the aspects that have brought them to counselling. |
